Instructional Design Perspective

Like producing a film, managing a learning design project is about clear communication, big picture planning, and a willingness to experiment with structure and content delivery methods. My mission is to build an active learning experience with higher expectations of learner contributions and accountability. I am an advocate for learners above all else.

I’ve designed in-person, online, blended, and self-paced course work in a variety of disciplines. I’ve designed for higher education, continuing education, and professional development learning audiences. I’ve worked with a few learning management systems as well as a collection of educational technology authoring tools. I learn new tools quickly but incorporate technology wisely.

The SMEs I’ve collaborated with often report that after working through the design process they are more confident in their approach to teaching in general. This phenomenon is well documented in modern education research, including these articles from The Chronicle of Higher Education and Faculty Focus.

I’ve researched and collaborated with SME’s in the following fields to create engaging and effective coursework and trainings:

  • Faculty, Staff, and TA Trainings in meaningful and effective use of digital tools
  • Faculty Course Design Process Training Workshop
  • Faculty Instructional Design Overview Workshop
  • Physiology/Anatomy
  • Data Science – Analytics Application Development
  • Data Science – Computer Vision
  • Accounting
  • Business Negotiations
  • Health Analytics Feature Development
  • Health Analytics Programming in R
  • Graduate Research & Writing
  • Nonprofit Management
  • Screenwriting
  • Cinema Foundations
  • Creative Writing Workshop
  • Genre Writing
  • Self-Management and Freelancing
  • Visual Literacy
